If you ask around the room, chances are most people around you have or had to wear braces. And generally, it takes a year or two to undergo orthodontic treatment. Although it may be super annoying to have to take the time to get the results, wearing braces is always worth it in the end. When you look in the mirror after your braces removal, we’re sure you will be pleased with your straighter, better looking smile.
We are often approached by parents and patients who are facing the jitters waiting for the days we tell them its time for their braces removal. What can you do to speed the process? While there aren’t many steps you can take to make your treatment move faster, there are some things you can do to pass the time. We love when we get to offer our patients these fun ways to count down to braces removal.
Take a Monthly Selfie
Most patients have monthly scheduled checkups. We advise all our patients to take a monthly selfie before or after their appointment. Although there may only be a slight change from the month before, over time you can see the improvements to your smile. On the days you feel discouraged, you can always look back and see how far you have come. Plus, you can see how close you are to braces removal as your teeth get straighter.
Make a Braces Removal Markdown Calendar
This may seem really old school, but it is a classic that still works. Grab a calendar. It can be any calendar, or you can make a fun project and create a braces themed one yourself. Hang it somewhere that is in regular view. Mark each day off as you go along with your braces removal dates noted.
Create a Pinterest Board
The growing trends on Pinterest may be difficult to keep up with, but they are a lot of fun for those who get involved. You can create a board that is dedicated to celebrating the time of your braces removal. Pin foods, party ideas, fun activities, or quotes and pictures. This isn’t only a fun idea, it helps pass the time.
Make a Facebook Page
Countdown and progress is something fun to track. Whether you are watching your weight, planning until you go on vacation, or awaiting your long-anticipated braces removal, it adds to the excitement. Make a page that highlights your progress. You are the owner, so you can add as much or as little as you want. Share pictures, post updates, even plan a party!
Make a Social Media Group
Chances are you aren’t the only kid (or adult!) with braces. Think about all your friends who have them as well. You can make a social media group that links you all. It is a great place to talk about things you like to eat, provide suggestions, and cheer each other on. It is likely that the friends you add will add other people who have braces as well. You can celebrate each other’s braces removal day and encourage each other on tough days. Everyone benefits.
At My Smile CT Orthodontics, we see many patients. They all have one thing in common. They can’t wait until they plan their braces removal appointment. We don’t take it personally. In fact, we love celebrating with our patients. Go ahead and give one of these great ideas a shot. If anything, it’ll pass the time until your celebration day!
